I sold a copy of Dive Training tonight and was momentarily jealous when I realized that the customer I sold it to will be mentally in the tropics while the rest of us are still dealing with the frosty arctic chill. The Chicago Tribune will be given away for free on Monday, January 19th only. Because starting that day, the newsstand editions of the daily Chicago Tribune will be printed in tabloid format, like the Sun-Times.

The home edition will still be a broadsheet. The content in the two editions will be virtually identical. It is believed that the Trib will be the first paper in America to be printed in both formats at the same time. They even shot some of it right around the corner from City Newsstand at the Portage Theater, which benefited nicely from some of the fixing up the production company did. It was a really nice afternoon. With the inauguration just ten days away this may be a good time to remind everybody that City Newsstand has a large section of collectible Barack Obama commemorative magazines, books, calendars, etc.

We Chicagoans are very proud of our native son and his accomplishments and very excited that our nation is embarking on a new beginning.
